Michael S. I also have this same issue. I wish to be able to set the default settings to extend rather than duplicate my desktop.
This is a major annoyance, and a significant reason for me to NOT upgrade my laptops. Dena B. In reply to HacolBsedej's post on November 15, It makes a total mess of things, windows resized, ugh. Really annoying. In reply to Dena B's post on November 22, The thread appears not to have been continued.
Also, we all seem to have a similar issue, so why force us to follow separate threads? Now there is an additional problem on the 1st dock configuration where it's not detecting any external monitors. Note: there is another "stored driver configuration profile" that generally sort of works. If I open the thinkpad's lid while it is in the dock, I get working drivers for both the USB keyboard's trackpoint and the external displays are recognized again.
Have these problems been long standing? Please update to the latest system bios. The keyboard and USB issue do sound like driver problems. Considering the mixed issues you are having, I would be inclined to restore the machine, a clean start and to trouble shoot from there if need be. The driver problems have accumulated over time. I suspect part of the problem is slight hardware differences different revs?
Both docks are the same model number. The first real set of trackpoint problems started after the first keyboard, the model that still had the built in numeric keypad, had to be replaced because the left mouse button had worn out and was no longer responding.
It was replaced with the version of the ultranav keyboard without a numeric keypad, because that's all that was available. Synaptics has newer versions of the point device drivers available on their site, but they aren't signed, so windows prefers to pick generic HID devices by default which makes things worse. The drivers for the keyboard from the lenovo site seem to be a mixed bag that is mostly out of date. One of the updates it had for re installation was the Lenovo Synaptics ultranav pointing device drivers update from last year - I let it install those and still had the same pointing device problems with the lenovo ultranav USB keyboard's pointing devices.
The driver is installed but not working. I was able to work around that one more time by plugging the keyboard into the laptop while the laptop was undocked. Looking back I think the problems got worse with that driver update, published over a year ago. Get answers from your peers along with millions of IT pros who visit Spiceworks.
