Does anyone know how to resolve a Code Purple Error? Tags 6. Tags: Archived. They called HP and told them that they didn't need the new drive because it was fixed. A teck guy at HP told them that the drive would still eventually fail, and sent them a new one for warranty.

It is my understanding that the error they received only ment that there was a problem, and that the drive could eventually fail. Or it may never fail at all. That being said, I went ahead and installed the new pre-imaged drive from HP exactly per their instructions.

No other changes were made. Frusterated, my friend called HP and gave them the code puple configuration error, and Hp told them that the motherboard was bad. At this point, I reinstalled the original drive, and the computer works flawless. I'm by no means an expert in the least, but it seams to me that if after I fixed the original error with the check disk utility, there should be no need for the new drive.

After I originally ran the check disk utility, the computer ran stable and error free for about 3 weeks before we installed the new drive. That tells me that I would think the motherboard isn't bad. I am here to learn from anyone to has more knowledge than me. I left my friend with the old hard drive installed and a working computer. Irrespective of the warranty outcome, I would still like to understand all I can about the error for future related problems. Thank you!!! Free is good!. A new hard drive and new motherboard would cost you a lot if you hadn't had the warranty. There is a ton of information on the code purple error in the link I posted if you want to learn more about it. I guess you can mark this as solved now.

Joined Jul 22, Messages 8, Me too Hugh. Thats why I won't ever purchase an HP ever since finding out about this. Not that they are bad machines, but to put a script in your machines that will stop it from working if you change hardware out is just wrong In so many ways!. Definitely not good for customer relationships. Also I did think I saw something about a class action lawsuit against HP for doing this. This wasn't my first run-in with HP.
