Windows xp suddenly slow
When I tried giving it another core it crashed so I guess that can't work but it's an 32bit XP There's about During testing I did nothing disk-intensive and all other resources were low. How does host disk performance affect this - whenever new data has to move here or there. It never is a problem on host. The one thing that really sticks out is CPU performance. Same on Firefox. I think it may be caused by a recent update to your WIndows 8.
Logs don't show anything unusual, I think. I don't know whether you have a dedicated GPU or not in your configuration, but it seems that virtualbox is using your integrated card, which is not a problem anyway, considering you play old games. I also noticed that you suspended, then resumed and finally powered off your VM machine probably for test purposes without errors.
Oh, and can you check whether there's a process called svchost. Just to be sure. If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Try booting up in safe mode. If little improvement, go into BIOS and check settings Dennis L ,. Thank you Zander and Dennis for your response. I booted XP in safe mode but it didn't seem to change anything radically. In fact every time I tried running winamp it hung and I had to reboot again. Dennis, I don't know how many sticks of RAM this laptop has. There's no info in the BIOS. But I doubt its got anything to do with that. I oo suspect this could be a heat issue. I went into the BIOS but settings seemed fine to me.
And there's no cpu temperature displayed in the BIOS. Both the Core Clock and Throttle are around 1. Its painfully slow. This is what slow motion in real time is! Hi, I doubt you will be able to run Winamp in Safe Mode, the main audio drivers should not be loaded. You should be able to do other tasks in Safe Mode though, for example, run a word-processing program but not print , run the photo viewer, run checks with antivirus, connect to the internet if your internet connection runs as a network connection and you are using "Safe Mode with networking ".
Are these other things "slow" in Safe Mode? Pentium CPUs have thermal sensors to control fan speed. A laptop I was working on seemed to have temperature problems.
