Tempt me with darkness pdf
My problem with this is an overload of characters. Giving bits and pieces of information that the main characters could have handled. I would have been happy if the hero had a flashback for a couple chapters and interacted with his friends. The problem with bringing everyone into the first book is trying to fully flesh them out. It screams, "Oh! Pick me! I'm i I finally finished this after a few months of struggling through it.
I'm important even though I'm just a minor character Start explaining his life history. This smacks of future set-up. For his book. This is fine to do with a couple minor characters but there just seemed to be alot of this and it took away from the meat of the plot between the hero and heroine developing their romance. They seemed to have progressed very mechanically.
The storytelling was classically good for a PNR. So I am not at all disappointed in that aspect. I just could have done without the pauses to interject "his story", for later. This author writes some of the hottest sex scenes ever! So I wouldn't not recommend this book.
I would just like to forewarn readers that are annoyed by character pop-ins. Apr 06, Lisa X rated it did not like it Shelves: pnr. This book was a huge disappointment! What a hot pile of garbage! Weak characters, weak plot and weak romance. I actually had to skip ahead the last pages because I was so bored with this book.
The heroine was thoroughly annoying as was the hero. She didn't want to fall in love with him because she thought he viewed her as a means to an end. He didn't want to show feelings of love because he didn't know what to do with his feelings. This repetitive theme got old really fast.
Her story I felt This book was a huge disappointment! Her story I felt lacked direction and clarity. By the time I had to skip ahead page , the book still hadn't truly explained the premise of the story. Usually I can overlook this if the romance part of the book is good but it wasn't. I haven't read Shalya Black before but I know she writes erotica novels. Perhaps she should of stuck to that genre.
View all 8 comments. And it is kind of a long book. I didn't want to re-read the whole damn thing. So I can't really write a full review because I honestly can't sooooo I had this book on an old iPad, which I found today and of course I pulled up my ibooks and I have this whole series on this old iPad downloaded and so thought yay I can finish this first book that I started like a year ago!
So I can't really write a full review because I honestly can't remember enough of the book to do it. The ending was pretty good. I really hope that the next book will fill in some of the blanks about the story line.
Feb 23, Spazfungus rated it did not like it. Aug 31, Theogirl rated it really liked it. The mystical - and hot - connection between Olivia and Marrok, one of King Arthur's mightiest Warriors, hooked me from the start. I will definitely continue to read the series. Feb 20, Kris rated it it was ok. Very trashy. An interesting foundational premise. Jun 27, Dondominiquo rated it it was ok.
I can highly recommend this book if you have a case of insomnia. Major yawnage may occur while reading it lol. In fact, I had to force myself to just finish it. Personally, Olivia Gray will only be noted as being one of the most annoying female characters. And OMG her attitude with her father, geez woman!! I know she wanted to find him but to just trust him straight off just because he showed her some affection gaaaaah was just so damn annoying!
The sex was okay but not very memorable except for that point mentioned previously. Just the image of these guys prancing around like a bunch of pansies and having to depend on their wands was just comical for me…random I know lol. Before reading this, I had high expectations and I was seriously disappointed by it all. So this one is chalked up to an average reading experience.
Jan 09, Books A-Brewin' rated it really liked it. In my quest to read as many Book Bash Authors as I possibly could before the convention, it was only a matter of time before I dived into some of Shayla Black's books. I was a little put off by the cover simply because I have an aversion to men with long hair.
I waffled a bit and then finally said 'to hell' with what the cover and started to read it anyway. Black's world of the Doomsday Brethren opens with Marrok. He is a soldier from King Arthur's army who has lived much longer than In my quest to read as many Book Bash Authors as I possibly could before the convention, it was only a matter of time before I dived into some of Shayla Black's books.
He is a soldier from King Arthur's army who has lived much longer than he would have liked. He has watched everyone he loves and cares for die and turn to dust while he remained. All he wants is for the curse the witch, Morganna, placed on him to come to an end. He wants to die in peace and never have to wake another day on this Earth.
Eventually, he dreams about a raven haired beauty with familiar violet eyes who beckons to him and tells him she is the key to his curse's undoing. Thinking he is coming up against Morganna in an attractive disguise he captures the young woman and demands she free him.
All the while he struggles with the attraction that threatens to overshadow his desire for release from his eternal existence. Olivia never thought the droolworthy man who abducted her would turn her life upside down in so many ways. She feels so much for him in such a short period of time that she offers to help him break the curse any way she can.
She may not be the witch he thought she was, but she is destined for greatness in the magical world. She will help free Marrok from his curse, even if her heart breaks with the idea of him submitting to death.
Olivia and Marrok's quest to open the Morganna's diary to release Marrok from his curse leads to an evil entity who has designed on the diary for entirely different reasons. Now they must keep the diary safe not just to avoid losing the one tool that could help Marrok, but to save magickind entirely from utter destruction.
All the while, the two must learn to trust one another or else lose each other forever. There was so much suspicion in this book. Who was the rat in their ranks? Was Marrok or Olivia completely unselfish in their actions? Every member of the Brethren had beef with someone else within their numbers.
It was chaos. I got frustrated on more than one occasion with Marrok and Olivia always suspecting the other of working against them or questioning their feelings. But, of course, that sort of drama is what kept the story going. It wouldn't be very thrilling if they all just trusted each other completely from the beginning.
However, I did want to smack Marrok and Olivia on more than one occasion. I enjoyed the world that was created.
I liked that it was a nice break from vampires and werewolves. I also gushed a little at a small Harry Potter reference within the pages. This book actually does read a lot like an erotica version of Harry Potter. Possibly why I liked it so much? Tempt Me in Darkness is a page turner from start to finish. It brings into question loyalty and love to the extinct of sacrifice and solidarity.
Jan 21, Shannon rated it really liked it Shelves: romance , paranormal , , urban-fantasy. Marrok of Cadbury was one of Arthur's most ferocious knights and a hungry but careless lover.
After spending a night with Arthur's half-sister, the powerful witch, Morganna, he spurns her and is cursed by her to an immortal life with no satisfaction. The curse she writes in her Doomsday Book, which Marrok manages to steal, but it is locked and he is doomed to an eternity of life with no sexual relief.
Now living outside London, he is tormented by dreams of Morganna in a new form, luring him and Marrok of Cadbury was one of Arthur's most ferocious knights and a hungry but careless lover. Now living outside London, he is tormented by dreams of Morganna in a new form, luring him and seducing him before vanishing. But the dream gives him a clue, and he's set on finding her in her new look.
Olivia Gray has come to London to open a new art gallery and look for her long-lost father, Richard, whom she's never met. A chance meeting with the amazing wood carver, Marrok, through their mutual friend Bram, leads to Marrok believing she's someone called Morganna and abducting her. Locked up in his cottage in the woods, Olivia can find no way to convince Marrok she's who she says she is. She also thinks he's insane for believing he's immortal, but that doesn't stop her from being drawn to him, seducing him and offering an ancient Mating Call that binds them together forever.
Marrok believes Olivia, a descendant of Morganna, is the key to unlocking the Book, but can he trust her? Doesn't duplicity run in her veins?
As Olivia falls in love with him, she's sure he's only with her because he believes she can help him be free of his curse and finally die. Shayla Black's new series promises to be a juicy, thrilling ride through steamy sex, supernatural politics, a war started anew, an evil wizard a la Voldemort but with a perverse liking for sexual torture, and the reforming of a new Brethren, a group of warriors to protect the world from falling into the hands of the evil Mathias.
It's fast-paced, exciting, a mix of pleasing originality and tried-and-true formula, a few Harry Potter jokes and some powerful-looking, hulking wizards who suck at fighting and don't know how to fire a gun. Until Marrok trains them. A very promising start to the Doomsday Brethren. Sep 22, Ezinwanyi Chinyere rated it liked it Shelves: meet-greet-recs-completed. It wasn't bad, but it was slow and it didn't pull me in. Marrock of Cadbury spent a night of "tupping" with Morgana Le FEythe sorcercess and they have been bound together since then.
Since he rejected her, she cursed him and now he is never full satiated when he is with another woman, and he can never fully possess her. He has been stumbling around for fifteen centuries looking for her so he can break the curse. He has the book necessary, but he also needs Morgana. One day, a friend brings him to an art gallery in London, because the owner of the gallery loved some carvings he did. As soon as their eyes met, Marrock recognized her as the woman he has been searching for.
He ends up kidnapping her trying to force her to break the curse but they end up as bonded mates. The story gets convulted but basically as they are humping every 15 minutes, an evil wizard is looking for Morgana because he needs the power in her blood to complete his plan for world domination etc. The story has potential but it wasn't smooth or really that enjoyable. I wasn't impressed with Shayla Black's writing style either.
I may read book 2, just not anytime soon. Jul 24, Vanessa theJeepDiva rated it really liked it Shelves: , romance , fantasy. This book was almost a 5 star read. I had some major issues with Olivia. Olivia was raised only by her mother, a woman who never showed her any love or support. Marrock, her mate on the other hand she does not does not have the same blind faith in. I loved Marrock. He was cursed for doing exactly w This book was almost a 5 star read.
He was cursed for doing exactly what he loved most. He only wants the curse broken so that he can die. He does not like magic or people. He is fine with living alone in the middle of the woods without too many modern conveniences. This series also has a great line of supporting characters that will be featured in the upcoming books.
Apr 06, Yui rated it it was ok Shelves: bored-me-to-death , romance-romance , warriors , witches , first-in-series , urban-fantasy. Yes, it bored me to death but I'm giving it 2stars regardless. Not so much for it's redeeming qualities but for myself for having the patience and endurance to finish it. My eyes kept straying from the pages and my mind kept thinking of other things I should be doing.
The story itself is not so bad. I've read it a dozen times before but it's bearable. A dormant witch and a cursed immortal warrior. Not really original but it has i Yes, it bored me to death but I'm giving it 2stars regardless.
Not really original but it has it's potential. Unfortunately, what made this read painful was the heroine. The very definition of a TSTL character. Er- Yeah, 5hrs. The writing was boring, the story unpolished and the characters weirdly stupid and stupidly crazy. Enough said. Nov 17, Sophie rated it really liked it Shelves: paranormal , raunchy-erotic , romance , series. Really enjoyed this book. Looks to be a very entertaining series. Enjoyed becoming immersed into a complete magical world that included historical references to Merlin and Morganna.
My one big negative point for this book is that I got a bit fed up of Olivia and her stubborn internal dialogue of how she didnt trust the endearments and affections of Marrok. I find that I don't mind that sort of self dialogue at the start of stories but Really enjoyed this book. I find that I don't mind that sort of self dialogue at the start of stories but it gets a bit irritating when it just keeps going on and on and on throughout the book and becomes a bit repetitive in my mind.
Sparks fly when an immortal warrior cursed by Morgan le Fey is paired with the infamous Sorceress' great-granddaughter. So, who in this series are the good guys, and who backs the evil one? While some of the characters are clearly on the side of good, a few are questionable. Clearly I must determine where everyone's loyalty lies Every excuse to start the next book In the series. Did I skim? Will I re-read?
I might skim throughnthe series as other books are added Were the supporting cha Sparks fly when an immortal warrior cursed by Morgan le Fey is paired with the infamous Sorceress' great-granddaughter. I might skim throughnthe series as other books are added Were the supporting characters engaging? Yes, indeed. I continue with the series to discover the fate of several characters.

When they meet, neither can admit their true feelings to one another because both have trust issues. Marrock is a dreamy kind of guy He treats Olivia with such tenderness.. I couldn't get enough of it until I hit the middle of the book. It seemed like everything just dragged on and on and on. The end was filled with action, but the middle was so painfully slow that I almost didn't care about the ending. I kept wanting to shake some sense into the heroine.
This was an ok read and I liked it enough to want to read the next one in the series, but I'm glad i got this one from the library.

I really enjoyed this book Wasn't sure what to expect, but it was an intriguing plot, and I loved all of the Doomsday Brethren.. Marrock and Olivia make a great couple, even though he doubts her while falling in love with her, and I'm dying to know what happens next good thing I have the next two books!
Definitely a series you need to read in order though:- 4. Jun 20, Robin rated it really liked it Shelves: shayla-black , doomsday-brethren. This was a pretty good book. The characters are likeable enough and fleshed out pretty well and the bad guy is really a bad guy. Witch and Wizards, one descendant of Merlin.
I'm sure I'll read the rest of the series. I'll have to read the next one to see if someone can rescue the poor Anka Although for some reason I think she might not be a good guy but have to wait and see. I like that all the characters aren't cut and dried. Some of them you have to wonder who's side they are on.
Nov 15, Netanella rated it liked it Shelves: paranormal-romance. I wanted this to be a 5-star book, I really did. The cover convinced me. The reputation of the author convinced me. The story, however, was the buzz-kill, particularly when all the Doomsday Brethren showed up and started waving their wands around. I mean the Harry Potter kind. That lost a point for the visuals alone. Readers also enjoyed. Videos About This Book. More videos About Shayla Black.
